Fort Riley Kicks Off Operation Santa

The 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley began their annual Operation Santa fundraising event with a ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday morning at Operation Santa headquarters.

For nearly 30 years, the Fort Riley community has helped needy children and their families by providing gifts during the holiday season. This year, over one thousand gifts were collected.

"It’s a great thing because there’s soldiers out there who can’t provide, you know," said Private Andre King. "Myself and my wife, we have a son also and it gives us an opportunity to see what we can do for the other people out there. Right now I don’t think we have a certain amount of toys that we can receive, but I’m pretty sure they’re going to be fine."

If you would like to donate to Operation Santa, the program is asking for new, unwrapped toys in a $15 to $20 price range for children, ages two to 16.
