Fort Riley Holds Military Appreciation Day

Fort Riley opened its doors to military retirees of all branches during an Appreciation Day at Riley Conference Center on Friday.

Maj. Gen. Paul E. Funk II, commanding general, 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley, was the opening guest speaker.

Other speakers included Col. Andrew Cole Jr., garrison commander and Col. Barry Pockrandt, Irwin Army Community Hospital commander, who provided an update on the progress of construction of the new hospital facility which will open next year.

Col. (Ret) Ralph Titus, United States Air Force, historian and Founder of National Public Radio, a notated historian provided a historical presentation for Dr. John Brinkley of Milford, KS, who is also known as the ‘Goat Gland Doctor’.

As part of the day's events, the Irwin Army Community Hospital conducted a health fair throughout the day, which included health screenings for retirees and authorized family members; informational tables on such subjects as Tricare, optometry and dental care; as well as immunizations for flu, shingles, pneumonia and tetanus.
