TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Former Shawnee County Sheriff Dick Barta will be on an election ballot after all.
Barta has set a news conference for 2 pm Thursday at Memorial Hall, the downtown Topeka building which houses the Secretary of State's offce.
Barta would only tell 13 News Wednesday night that he is seeking a political office, but wouldn't specify which. It was rumored he had been considering a bid for a Shawnee County Commission seat, however that filing deadline has passed.
The Republican served 12 years as sheriff before retiring in April. He was a longtime Kansas Highway Patrolman before that.
