TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Forbes Field is landing a new name.
The Metropolitan Topeka Airport Authority board approved the change at its meeting Tuesday.
The airport and adjacent industrial park will be renamed Topeka Regional Airport and Business Center. The airfield will still be known as Forbes, honoring the Maj. Daniel Forbes, the pilot for whom the faclity was named.
MTAA President Eric Johnson says the board still has the goal of bringing a commercial air service to Topeka. They felt the new name would bring easier name recognition by including the name of the city it serves.
The MTAA says a $1 million air service incentive fund passed by state lawmakers will help market the name.
The airport is also in the process of updating its website and renaming some of the streets.
