TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Fireworks sales start Wednesday in the City of Topeka, but you can't let the sparks fly for a few more days.
In the City of Topeka, people can set off fireworks from July 1st thru 4th. Hours July 1, 2 and 3 are 8 am to 10 pm. Hours July 4 are 8 am to 11:59 pm.
The Topeka City Council recently banned metal sparklers. Bottle rockets are illegal statewide. Also, people under the age of 18 may not possess or discharge fireworks without adult supervision and in the physical presence of an adult. Fines for any of those offenses range from $250 to $499 per violation.
The Consumer Production Safety Commission says the U.S. saw 9600 fireworks-related injuries in 2011 and recorded four deaths.
