TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- The Shawnee County Courthouse was evacuated Monday morning as a fire alarm sounded in the 9 o'clock hour.

County workers, including county commissioners who were in session at the time, were evacuated for 30 minutes as fire crews investigated the alarm.

Firefighters used thermal imaging cameras as they searched for hot spots in the building. None were found, according to Dave Sterbenz, Shawnee County Emergency Management director.

According to Sterbenz, a fault in the second floor section of the fire system appeared to have caused the alarm to sound.

County workers were allowed back into the courthouse by about 10 a.m.
