Events That Salute Vets Kicks Off In Downtown Topeka

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Several events are happening in Downtown this week to show support to all the brave men and women who have fought for our freedom.

The "Stand for Sacrifice" kicked off the tribute to service men and women who have fallen in the line of duty.

The event on Monday went from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 800 S. Kansas Avenue.

The Stand of Sacrifice included Military representatives standing at attention throughout the day, only taking a five minute break every hour.

This is the first year for the Stand of Sacrifice in Topeka. Next year, it will be a National event with participants all over the country standing at the same time on the same day.

Tuesday's event for Veterans is a photographic display called "Faces of Freedom."

It is also from from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 800 S. Kansas Avenue.

Other events include the "Salute to our Heroes Gala" starts at 6 p.m. Saturday, November 9th at the Downtown Ramada Inn and Convention Center.

The Inaugural Topeka Veteran's Day Parade is Monday, Veteran's Day, and will start at 11 a.m.

The parade will use the same route as the annual St. Patrick's day parade.
