EMPORIA, Kan. (AP) _ Emporia's chief of police has resigned.
The Emporia Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/N7cSj2 ) that Police Chief Gary Smith resigned Friday afternoon.
City Manager Matt Zimmerman says the city accepted Smith's resignation. Zimmerman would not say why Smith resigned because it's the city's policy not to discuss personnel matters.
He said Lt. Scott Cronk will serve as interim chief while the city searches for a replacement.
