EMPORIA, Kan. (KVOE) - Operations are back to normal at Emporia's animal shelter following a distemper outbreak.
KVOE Radio in Emporia reports the shelter returned to normal operations Monday.
Dogs at the shelter began falling ill in late February and sickness continued in several waves. Officials believe the outbreak started with strays brought in from north Lyon County.
More than 60 dogs died. In September, the shelter was quarantined and operations shifted to a temporary intake facility at the Lyon County Fairgrounds.
KVOE reports the animals were brought back on site over the weekend.
