TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- With Easter right around the corner, the Kansas Dept. of Health and Environment and the Dept. of Agriculture wants to remind you of the increased dangers of handling baby poultry, like chicks or ducklings.

Last year, there were 19 reported cases of salmonella, the agencies said.

To minimize your risk, officials say you should wash your hands - and your kids hands too - after touching the birds. They also recommend children don't have any direct contact with the birds or their homes.
