Downtown Apartment Building Catches Fire

Topeka, Kan. (WIBW) - A downtown apartment building was evacuated early Sunday evening because of a fire.

Fire officials responded to the St. Gregory apartments about 6:15 to reports of smoke and flames coming from a fifth floor apartment on the east side of the building. The fire was under control in about 15 minutes.

No one was injured in the blaze but two residents were transported to a local hospital for smoke inhalation.

Firefighters made sure the building is safe before letting residents return.

The cause is under investigation. A damage estimate wasn't available Sunday night.
