(WIBW) - Authorities say a body found in rural Douglas County Thursday has been identified as a missing KU student.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office say an autopsy confirmed the identity of 23-year old Yelekal Alemu of Lawrence.
Alemu's family reported him missing May 12th when he failed to show up for important gatherings. His car was discovered in the area just south of the Wakarusa River and County Road 1057 that same day. Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputies and Lawrence Police Officers extensively searched the area, but never found him.
Lawrence Police officers were doing follow-up investigation in the area Thursday afternoon when they discovered the body.
Authorities say foul play is not expected.
