Dog Dies In Friday Morning Garage Fire

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW-TV) -- Firefighters attempted to save the life of a dog who was killed in a garage fire in Southwest Topeka early Friday morning.

Battalion Fire Chief Eric Bouer told 13 News that a detached garage at 2221 SW Fillmore was fully involved with flames when they arrived around 2:30 a.m.

The home owner told 13 News that a person was staying inside the garage and safely evacuated, but unfortunately the dog that was also inside was not so lucky.

Firefighters attempted to revive the dog but were not successful.

Bauer said gaining access to the structure was the hardest part of the fire. The cause of the fire remained under investigation Friday morning.
