TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- Jared Holroyd will not seek the vacant District 8 Topeka City Council seat.
Holroyd released a statement Thursday announcing the withdrawal of his name as a candidate:
"I am honored that so many people encouraged me to seek the Topeka City Council seat for District 8, and I greatly appreciate the support I have received. After further reflection, based on my current work commitments and continued civic involvement, I have decided this is not the best time for me to seek this position. Therefore, I respectfully withdraw my name from consideration and wish the person selected by the Council the best in serving the City."
Holroyd is the Director of Atria Hearthstone Retirement Community.
Previous District 8 representative Andrew Gray resigned in May, citing health concerns for himself and a close family member. He was midway through his first term.
Governing body members - the remaining council members and Mayor Larry Wolgast - will interview candidates and vote on who will fill out the term at their meeting June 11th.
Nathan Schmidt, David Mountain and Charles Dean Wilson have applied for the open council seat.
