TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)- Helping Oklahoma tornado victims is as easy as a trip to the grocery store.
WIBW-TV and sister station KAKE-TV in Wichita are joining Dillons stores in raising money for the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. Between now and June 8th, shoppers can donate at Dillons by purchasing $5 or $10 cash cards, dropping coins in designated boxes or rounding up bills to the nearest dollar.
Sheri Plymale, assistant manager of the Dillons at SW 29th and Urish in Topeka, says it is a community store and staff and shoppers want to help out in any way they can.
Jo Ann Long, with the Kansas Capital Area chapter of the Red Cross, says it doesn't matter where the disaster is. She says people in Topeka will step up to help Oklahoma, just as Oklahomans would help us if we were in need.
All Kansas Dillons stores are taking part in the fundraising effort. Dillons will match up to $50,000 in donations.
