SHAWNEE CO., Kan. (WIBW) - An area couple will have quite a story to tell about their little one's rush to enter the world.
Shawnee County Sheriff's Office Lt. Akim Reynolds says he was on his way to work just after 9:40 pm when he spotted a Jackson County Sheriff's deputy standing near an SUV along Highway 75. Reynolds stopped to see if he could assist, and learned a woman in the vehicle was in labor.
Reynolds says the deputies were prepared to assist the couple with the delivery, but a Jackson County EMS crew arrived and took over.
The dispatcher said mother and child were reportedly fine when they were on their way to the hospital shortly after 10 pm.
