Release from Michelle De La Isla
Topeka, Kansas – Michelle De La Isla officially announces her candidacy for City of Topeka Council District 5.
Michelle is the Executive Director for Topeka Habitat for Humanity, incoming President for MANA de Topeka, MANA National’s financial literacy instructor and mother of three. She is a non-profit executive with seven years of experience in neighborhood revitalization, financial management, economic development and community organizing.
Passionate about this decision, Michelle said, “I chose to run because of my experiences in the social sector. Throughout the past 12 years, I have gone from empowering impoverished first generation college students who wondered if they would ever make it in school, to working alongside Topeka’s best and brightest moving forward plans to better our city. I have also worked with an amazing group of God loving people supporting the revitalization of neighborhoods seeking to improve our community. Because of what I have learned through all these experiences, and more, I have come to the realization that I have an obligation to serve at my current maximum capacity this city I love.”
Through her community involvement, Michelle has a proven track record of bringing government, business, non-profit and community stakeholders together. Previously, as Chief Financial Officer of Housing and Credit Counseling, she managed a $1.4 million budget and developed a Spanish language financial literacy curriculum. De La Isla was also directed the establishment of Topeka Habitat’s ReStore and offices in Holiday Square, within her district.
