DA Rules Shooting Of Suspect Justified, Charges Suspect

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A Shawnee County Sheriff's deputy will not be charged in the shooting of a suspect, but the suspect does face charges.

45-year old David Kershaw barricaded himself inside a home in the 1900 block of NW 39 Street on February 5th. Officers negotiated for about an hour when they say Kershaw fired a handgun at deputies and they fired back.

Kershaw suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The Shawnee County District Attorney's Office said Thursday that its review found the use of force was justified.

DA Chad Taylor also announced his office charged Kershaw with four felony counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and a misdemeanor count of domestic battery.
