TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)- Shawnee County District Attorney Chad Taylor today formally declined to file charges against any persons for their involvement in the stabbing death of Shawn Hughes, Topeka, Kan., 30, on May 26, 2011. The fatal stabbing occurred during a family gathering on the 300 block of SE Winfield Avenue in Topeka, Kansas.
“Following an exhaustive personal review of all reports submitted by the Topeka Police Department, I have determined that the actions taken by the involved individual were well-within his lawful rights to protect himself and others from immediate harm,” District Attorney Chad Taylor said. “Based upon the determination that the actions taken were in self-defense, my office will file no criminal charges against any person for their involvement in this incident.”
