JACKSON CO., Kan. (WIBW) - Crews from around Jackson County were kept busy Wednesday evening by a large grass fire.
The fire was reported around 5 pm between Mayetta and Holton, west of Hwy. 75 in the area around 174th and K Rd.
Fire officials say a farmer was working in a field when a swather ignited a spark in the grass.
Crews worked to protect two homes in the path of the flames, but neither was damaged. Several local departments worked to keep the fire from spreading. About 100 acres burned in all.
Prairie Band Tribal Fire Capt. Eric Ganson says the fire was comparable to others they've worked so far during this hot, dry weather period.
