Crews Working On Phone Outage In Osage County

OSAGE CO., Kan. (WIBW) - Phone services are down in Osage County Sunday afternoon, after a backhoe operator cut one of the company's fiberoptic cables.

A CenturyLink spokeswoman told 13 News the backhoe operator cut a fiberoptic cable between Alma and Alta Vista. She said the outage has affected communities in Osage County, Wabaunsee County and Coffey County.

"Our crews are working now on repairing the problem and phone service to those communities should be restored by 9 p.m., if not sooner," she said.

She said the incident happened in the morning and reports of outages came in stages.

The Wabaunsee County Sheriff's office also released a statement, saying, "Wabaunsee County is experiencing widespread telephone outage. Incoming and outgoing long-distance has been interrupted, as well as 911 telephone coverage."

"If assistance is needed in Wabaunsee County, please call the Pottawotamie County Sheriff's Office at 785-457-3354 to have information relayed to Wabaunsee County," the Wabaunsee County Sheriff's Office said.

Officials say 911 calls in Osage and Coffeey Counties are working.
