TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- Investigators say a lawnmower is likely to blame for a fire that destroyed a home just north of Topeka this afternoon.
Authorities say homeowners told them they'd just pulled the mower into the garage and were working in the back yard at 808 NE 43rd when they spotted the smoke around 2:00 p.m.
The home was fully engulfed when Soldier Township and Topeka Fire crews arrived.
The state fire marshal's office is assisting with the investigation. They say it appears the fire started in the garage.
Crews were called around 2 p.m. Tuesday to a fully involved house fire in Topeka.
Flames were visible as firefighters arrived at 808 NW 43rd Street.
Soldier Township firefighters were on scene.
Details of the blaze were not immediately released.
