TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- Investigators say the cause of a fire that destroyed a home north of Topeka Friday afternoon remains undetermined.

Soldier Township fire crews were called just after 2:30 pm to 425 NW 48th Terrace. The location is near Seaman High School.

Firefighters arrived to find flames engulfing the home, but fire officials say two teenagers and four adults had all gotten out unhurt.

Wind quickly fanned the flames through the structure, also spreading the fire to a car. Damage was so bad, part of the house collapsed in.

Fire officials say the wind made fighting the flames a challenge, as did getting enough crews on scene to make a more aggressive attack on the fire. Volunteers were summoned and City of Topeka firefighters were called to assist.

The State Fire Marshall's office says they believe the fire started in the garage. Their investigation into the cause continues.

The two story home, which the Shawnee County Appraiser's website values the home at $112,700, is a total loss. The property is owned by Darwin and Shirley Wooten.
