TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Shawnee County Commissioners have set the stage for choosing a new entity to run Helen Hocker Theatre.
At their meeting Thursday, commissioners decided they will select from the four proposals themselves, rather than appoint a separate selection committee. They'll hear presentations from all four applicants during their meeting next Monday.
Commissioners say they will allow plenty of time for the public to give input.
Details of the proposals must be kept secret, by law, until a selection is made, but officials do say there's a lot to consider.
"(I) briefly looked at the proposals. They look like several of them are coming from different angles on the best way in the future Helen Hocker Theatre should run," Parks and Rec Director John Knight told 13 News.
The county received proposals from Topeka Civic Theatre and Academy; SMG, which is the company that runs the Kansas Expocentre; the Topeka law office of Bruce D. Woolpert; and the Helen Hocker Theatre's board of directors.
