(WIBW) - People in Council Grove are being asked to keep the water faucets off.
City administrator Danny Matthews issued a water emergency Thursday night. He says the city's water tower is nearly empty.
Matthews says zebra mussels are clogging the intake from Council Grove City Lake. Crews are on site, working to correct the problem. Once they clear the intake, Matthews expects it will take eight to ten hours to get the tower filled again to keep up with water demand.
Matthews says they are asking citizens to avoid using any water if at all possible so the water remaining in the tower is available in the event of an emergency.
