TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A vote to raise Topeka's water and stormwater rates will wait at least three weeks.
Council members voted Tuesday night to defer the issue. Several had requested more details on how money from prior rate hikes was spent. Mayor Bill Bunten was the lone vote against a delay.
The city wants to raise rates to fund infrastructure improvements.
Also Tuesday, council members voted to appoint interim finance director Pam Simecka as interim city manager. She'll replace current interim Dan Stanley until a permanent replacement is found.
Stanley is leaving the post June 1st for family reasons. He missed Tuesday's meeting due to the health of his mother.
The council hopes to being interviewing candidates for permanent city manager next month.
