Midwestern Metals workers arrived at their shop at 1105 NW Silver Lake Rd., Monday morning to $200 thousand in damages, but workers say the thieves will only see a fraction of that.

Copper thieves struck the business last weekend, stripping the metal from machines, cutting welders leads, and stealing hand and power tools.

Several stolen pieces were specially crafted for their trade. A piece that's worth hundreds of dollars to the employees, to the thieves, may only be worth about ten bucks in scrap metal.

Thieves also cut several power supplies and stole extension cords.

Shop manager Cheyenne Willis had to send employees home both Monday and Tuesday because there just wasn't equipment left for them to use. To the workers, that's frustrating.

"It really hurts our customers because their deliveries are going to be late now," said Willis.

Now, as the business repairs and restocks their equipment, their also focused on improving security.

A reward is available for information leading to an arrest in the case.

If you can help, call Capital Area Crime Stoppers, (785) 234-0007.
