Community Remembers Topeka Raceway

TOPEKA, Kan (WIBW)--Topeka Raceway Park is nothing but a field today, but from 1954 to 1997 it was a hot spot for all types of racing.

Orville Dreasher has been involved with the raceway for most of his life, his family owned a farm near the track, he and his brother raced on it and he even ran the track in 1995.

Sadly for Dreasher, he was also the person who had to close the track. He says neighbors campaigned against the raceway and its noise.

More than 8 years of court battles led to a Kansas Supreme Court ruling to shut it down for not having the right permits.

Dreasher still owns his family's farm and lives close to the track.

Sunday night he threw a celebration in remembrance of the raceway.
