TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)__Community members completed their emergency response training Saturday afternoon.
The Shawnee County Department of Emergency Management held their CERT Academy graduation for those who completed the training course.
Graduates learned how to take care of family members and neighbors in times of disasters or situations requiring quick response before professional help arrives.
Before the graduation ceremony, a field exercise was held to allow graduates to show off their skills. Other community members acted as victims to make the scenario seem real. They were bandaged and cared for as if it was an actual emergency event.
The CERT program is comprised of all volunteers.
