ALMA, Kansas (WIBW) -- This year, the local need for blood is expected to rise.

The Community Blood Center is conducting a blood drive Monday, July 19 at Wabaunsee Highs School commons area to help local hospital patients.

Last year, around 28,000 individuals in the area needed a blood transfusion.

The Community Blood Center hopes the community finds them just as essential as other community services like the fire and police stations, because the center works to meet the needs of local patients.

Individuals in Alma can help meet the needs by donating at Wabaunsee High School from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Make an appointment online by going to www.esavealifenow.org and use Sponsor Code wabaunseehs.

Contact Kathy Hendricks for more information at 785-765-3876.

When you register, you can enter to win a Disney World Family Adventure trip.

Community Blood Center needs at least 580 pints of blood every day to meet the demand.

The event is sponsored by the Kansas Association for Youth.
