TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)--Monday night's Commission Planning meeting detailed an effort to increase growth throught Topeka from the edges to the core of the city.
Two years ago, Kiplingers Magazine placed Topeka on a list as one of the top ten cities to watch for the next ten years. The Planning Commission took more steps Monday night to make sure the Capital city can live up to those expectations.
The Commission discussed at length what can be done to improve Topeka's economic development both commercially and residentially.
The outside edges of Topeka have seen a boost in both, but the discussion Monday night was how the entire city can benefit from growth in thier respective areas.
"We do have some communities that are starting to turn around but there are some that are struggling." says Archetect Scott Gales, Vice President of Architect One. Gales admits that the problem cannot be fixed right away but he says, "taking them into mind now, you will see the core starting to share the benefits that the edges of town are seeing."
The plan is to take an "Outside-In" approach with the goal to revitalize downtown Topeka.
