TOPEKA (WIBW) -- Shawnee County Commissioner Shelly Buhler is making another run for it.
The District 1 incumbent turned in pages of petition forms to file as an Independent for another term on the three-member panel. Buhler brought the petitions into the Elections office at 911 SW 37th at about 1:45 Monday afternoon.
Elections Commissioner Andrew Howell says the number of qualified voter signatures she's required to turn in, is 1,571. His staffers will be working until 9:00 or 10:00 tonight to validate those signatures.
Buhler and City Councilman Chad Manspeaker (D), who are both running uncontested, await the winner of one Commission primary next week. Carol Marple and local attorney Billy Rork have filed to run in the District 1 Commission primary on the Republican side.
Howell also reminds Topeka-area voters they may advance vote for the primary all this week, with extended hours till 6pm.
