TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- The City of Topeka's director of utilities and transportation division has resigned after more than a decade of public service.

Braxton Copley's resignation is effective Dec. 14, when he'll step back from public work for a position in the private sector.

"I am extremely grateful for the opportunity I have had to serve the city for the past 12 years in a variety of roles," Copley said. "I wish only the best to the city, its employees and elected officials."

Prior to his work in the city's utilities and transportation division Copley served as an assistant city attorney.

In a city statement released Tuesday, Topeka City Manager Jim Colson publicly thanked Copley for his service.

“Braxton should be very proud of the work he did at the City, both in the legal department and in public works, " Colson said. " Braxton has truly been an asset to the organization, and his worth will leave a lasting impression,” Colson said.
