TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The wheels are in motion to fill a vacant Topeka City Council seat.
The District 2 position was posted Wednesday. It's open due to John Alcala's election to the legislature. His resignation was effective Dec. 31.
The Topeka City Clerk's office will accept applications through 5 pm January 22nd. City Council members will then conduct interviews and select a replacement.
District 2 residents can find an application at www.topeka.org. The person selected will serve until April, as the seat will be on the ballot in the spring election.
A similar process will be used later this month to fill the District 7 seat. Bob Archer resigns effective January 13th to take a seat on the Shawnee County Commission. The position will not be posted until the seat if officially vacant.
