TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- The city wants to be clear that a council member acted alone in leading a cleanup at a home in one neighborhood.
An ordinance on Tuesday's agenda would affirm the City Council's position that District 2 Representative John Campos acted without the authority, knowledge or ratification of city officials when he decided to cleanup a property at 746 NE Arter.
Volunteers met at the home March 8th for the cleanup. Code violations for the property were reported in October.
Campos issued a news release on council letterhead explaining he was frustrated by the city's lack of action on the property.
The city responded by outlining the timeline for the legal process it was following and said the house was scheduled for abatement a week later.
