A would be car thief is behind bars after leading authorities on a chase that ended with the driver crashing into a wall.

Authorities say it all started around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday after officers tried to stop an SUV at the intersection of Grant and Quincy for traffic violations.

The pursuit went through Downtown Topeka, but stopped at 17th and Western.

Minutes later, officers spotted the vehicle at 27th and Washburn and the chase continued until the driver lost control at 29th and Seabrook and crashed into a retaining wall.

That's when Calvin Jackson, 19, jumped out of the vehicle and attempted to run away. He was arrested a short time later.

The GMC Denali he was driving was stolen. Jackson was arrested for felony flee, elude and auto theft.
