MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) -- The head of a nonprofit organization is taking her work on the road, cycling across the country to spread the word about her mission.
Dr. Lori Salierno, 52, made her way through the greater Topeka area Friday after making a stop in Manhattan Thursday night.
Salierno is the CEO of Celebrate Life International, an organization dedicated to transforming at-risk kids into responsible citizens.
She is trying to raise awareness and funds for her 16-week mentoring program and hopes to help 10,000 children as a result of her bike ride.
“My cause is to help at-risk kids- at-risk meaning those who are dropping out of school or who are involved in gangs or may not have the support at home; their folks might be in prison or on drugs- and to give them a positive mentor in their lives so that they can have a positive future,” Salierno told WIBW.
Salierno started her journey in Vancouver, Washington on June 10th and will cycle through 13 states over the course of nearly two months, ending her 3,000 mile journey August 4th in Acworth, Georgia.
