TOPEKA, Kan (WIBW)__ Gov. Sam Brownback and first lady Mary Brownback celebrated kids' reading accomplishments at a picnic.
Students from across Kansas recorded their reading logs online and by august 1, more than 400 readers had read more than 10-thousand books!
Two top student readers from each of the state's school districts were invited to Cedar Crest (the governor's mansion) for some summer fun.
The governor launched his 'Read Kansas Read' summer program last May to encourage skills he says will bring a life-time of rewards.
The first couple also presented the Weir Public Library with a $500 grant from the Kansas Book Festival. The library was selected from dozens participating in the Read Kansas Read program.
