Brown County Warns Of DEA Arrest Threat Scam

(WIBW) - A new scam has crooks threatening people with arrest if they don't send money.

The Brown County Sheriffs office says several residents report getting calls from someone claiming to be from the Drug Enforcement
Agency. The caller tells the resident that they are the target of an investigation regarding the purchase of diet pills and medications from out of the country and, if they do not wire money to the DEA at a specified address, agents will immediately arrest them at their workplace.

The caller does give the victim a number to call. But that number gets a pre-recorded message stating they have reached the DEA.

The Brown County Sheriff's office says victims have indicated they have ordered medications from out of the country in the past, which leads authorities to believe records of the transactions have fallen in to the hands of scammers.

Anyone who receive these type of calls should notify their local law enforcement agency.
