RILEY COUNTY, Kan. (WIBW) -- Riley County police say an employee of Briggs Auto Group was left unconscious after losing control of a motorcycle at the dealership.

Emergency responders were called to an accident at the Briggs Supercenter at 4810 Skyway Drive Monday (10/8) at 8 PM.

Officials say Javarius Bender, 18, of Manhattan, lost control of a blue 2003 Suzuki GSX-R1000 at the dealership and skidded into a 2008 Nissan Armada. According to Lieutenant Josh Kyle, the RCPD spokesman, Bender is employed by Briggs.

Bender was ejected from the motorcycle and left with "incapacitating and disabling injuries," police said. Officers indicated that he was unconscious at the scene and during his transport to Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan.

WIBW is waiting to hear back from a spokeswoman at the hospital on Bender's condition.

Lt. Kyle told reporters Monday that police do not yet know what caused Bender to lose control of the motorcycle but the officers who handled the accident indicated that they believe over-correction/ over-steering could have been a contributing factor in the crash.

Reports state that the teen was wearing a helmet and eye protection at the time of the accident.
