LAWRENCE, Kan. (WIBW) - October is breast cancer awareness month and the city of Lawrence has a unique way of displaying its support.
Nearly 500 bras are stretched across the Kansas River in Lawrence. The community's annual "Bras across the Kaw" event raises awareness in the fight against breast cancer.
Organizers hope the visual will be a reminder that there is much research needed in order to find a cure. Some of the bras are from people who have been affected by breast cancer.
Bras across the Kaw will be on display for two weeks on the Vermont street bridge, just north of downtown Lawrence.
