The following is a press release sent out by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office:
A body was discovered earlier this afternoon, May 31st, in a rural wooded area south of the Wakarusa River and near County Road 1057.
Detectives from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the Lawrence Police Department are actively working the scene of the discovery.
Preliminary investigation indicates it was an unattended death and no foul play is suspected at this time.
The deceased individual’s identity has not yet been officially determined.
No further information is available at this time due to the ongoing investigation.
