TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Kansas arts initiatives are getting a boost.

Board members for the Kansas Creative Arts Industries Commission met via teleconference Monday. They were reviewing how to award grants through programs aimed at expanding or increasing cultural infrastructure.

KCAIC director Peter Jasso says the arts are an essential part of economic development and quality of life. He says that's why the group is dedicated to increasing the state's cultural infrastructure and portfolio.

The commission operates within the Kansas Department of Commerce.
