Barta Will Not Seek Reelection As Sheriff

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- After 12 years as Shawnee County sheriff, Richard Barta says he will not run again, according to Lieutenant Jay Simecka.

Undersheriff Herman T. Jones said he would file for the office Friday during the noon hour.

The Shawnee County Election Office said as of noon Friday, no one had filed to run for the Office of Sheriff of Shawnee County.

The general election is November 6, 2012.
