TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Local children got an early start ringing in the new year.

The Kansas Children's Discovery Center counted down to 2013 with a "Noon" Year's Eve balloon drop.

With the wet weather, Monday's events helped keep kids active.

"It's snowing outside so it allows them to get out some energy and run around and also take an opportunity to get some educational aspects done, like art or being a doctor," said Katie Ansley, who attended the event.

The Kansas Children's Discovery Center at Gage Park will be closed New Year's Day, but will re-open at 10 am Wednesday.
