TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Topeka Police say balloons played a role in a wreck that sent a car into a hotel Thursday night.

It happened just after 8 pm.

Police say 17-year-old Kelli Young of Topeka had just purchased helium balloons from Party America. Her vision became obscured by the balloons in her vehicle while driving in the 1800 block of SW Westport Drive. When she tried to push them out of the way, she lost control of her Honda Passport and went through a fence. The SUV dropped into a parking lot below, onto the hood of a parked truck. It hit a fire hydrant and another vehicle, then went through the lot and through the wall of the Value Place Hotel.

The SUV stopped when it was about three-quarters of the way inside a room.

28-year-old Michelle Williams was in the hotel room. Neither she nor Young was injured.
