Authorities Confirm 1 Dead In Horton House Explosion

HORTON, Kan. (WIBW) - A house explosion in Horton Friday evening claimed one life.

Authorities say it happened around 5 pm at 1555 2nd Ave. West. The blast and ensuing fire leveled the home. Witnesses reported hearing and feeling the blast from several blocks away.

Authorities say the man was found dead inside the home. His identity was not being released Friday night.

The Kansas Highway Patrol was among those assisting with traffic control around the scene. Horton Police and Fire, Brown Co. Sheriff's Office, Kickapoo Tribal Police, Horton EMS and several volunteer departments also responded.

Authorities say they continue investigating what caused the explosion.
