TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW-TV) -- A routine traffic stop turned into a high speed chase in Topeka Thursday morning.
Shawnee County Dispatch says it happened just after 3 a.m., when a Shawnee County Sheriff pulled over a vehicle for a routine traffic stop near Clarion Lane Way and Wanamaker Road.
That's when the high speed chase began.
Dispatch said the Sheriff pulled off the chase a short time later around 17th and Fairlawn because of the high rate of speed. The car was last seen heading eastbound.
Dispatch describes the car as a four-door silver LeSabre with a handicap tag and the driver was the only confirmed person inside.
Officials say the car may be stolen.
Both the Sheriff's Office and Topeka Police Department are searching for the car.
