TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Topeka Police officers helped stop an arson fire from spreading Friday morning.
They were patrolling the area near SW 23rd and Buchanan when they smelled smoke. The officers then saw a fire in front of a storage building at 2222 SW Buchanan.
Flames caught the front of the building on fire, but fire crews put it out before it got inside the building.
As a precaution, police evacuated apartments that are attached to the back of the building.
A fire investigator on the scene said arson is to blame.
