Arson Fire Injures Firefighter

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Tne firefighter was injured in what investigators are calling an arson fire.

Firefighters were dispatched around 4:50 pm Monday to 1334 SW Lincoln. They arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of the house. Initial reports also indicated a person might be trapped inside, but crews quickly brought the fire under control and determined the house was unoccupied.

Investigators say the fire started in an enclosed back porch. They say it was intentionally set.

One firefighter received minor injuries from a fall when exterior stairs collapsed. He was treated at the scene and released.

Fire officials say the home was undergoing renovations and no one currently lived there. Damage is estimated at $15,000.
